Carla Carter, LPC

Specializing in Children and Adolescents

Carla Carter is a Licensed Professional Counselor who is passionate about working with children, adolescents and families who have experienced complex trauma.  She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University. Carla is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a National Certified Counselor, and a Registered Play Therapist.  She synergistically blends her clinical skills and training with humor, play, and creativity to create an atmosphere and experience that is safe, non-judgmental and trusting, allowing clients to explore and work through their challenges. Carla accompanies each client, walking with them through the hurts of life.  She strives to instill hope, and meaning, support and truth through each healing journey.

 

Carla incorporates evidence-based integrative modalities such as Person-Centered  Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), and art therapy modalities.  She is also trained in play therapy and  Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), to help clients process their trauma. Carla's personal characteristics and experience enable her to enhance and change the lives of children and families as an empathetic and compassionate professional counselor.

 

Carla is known for her rapport-building skills and believes this is the basis of her work.  She strives to put parents and clients at ease. Building connection and trust with children and their families and providing psycho-educational results in more effective treatment which is central to the therapeutic process. Carla is passionate about helping children and teens who have experienced complex trauma, depression, and loss.

 

In addition to her clinical work, Carla is a children’s author, educator, active volunteer for the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention (AFSP).  Carla has volunteered with AFSP in a variety of settings including tabling at local colleges, serving as a facilitator for Talk Saves Lives, and participating in the annual Out of Darkness Walk. Carla currently serves on AFSP’s education committee and is a board member. Carla has a background in working with children in a variety of settings as an educator, drama and dance instructor, and group instructor.  In her spare time, Carla loves spending time with family and friends, kayaking, dancing, horseback riding, and traveling.
